Modern office in old monastery

Location: Malle

Authenticity versus modernity. In this project for notary office Nouwkens, we showed that both can perfectly co-exist. With a radical renovation, we brought this relic from the past to the 21st century.

For this genuine tour de force, we stripped the ancient monastery to its bare essence. To retain the feeling of closeness, we chose to keep the typical cloister windows. The contrast with the side and rear end of the building couldn’t be bigger. A massive glass wall makes for an abundance of light. Modern and transparent.

A symbolic surgery where nuns give way to notaries. We continued the same practice with the backside of the building, that overlooks the green character of the environment. An aesthetical but functional dome provides the interior, also designed by us, with plenty of light.

Architecture that enriches and connects. Causing struggle to surrender to symbiosis.
