DE KRING
Location: Genk
Heritage restored. Contemporary living added. De Kring reclaims a distinctive mining-site landmark as a contemporary residential ensemble, with respect for history and context. The former association building from 1913 was carefully restored and complemented by a crisp, contemporary volume. Old and new stand together, distinct yet perfectly aligned.
The historic brick architecture was preserved as much as possible and, where needed, meticulously reconstructed. Ornamentation, façade rhythm and scale once again set the point of reference. The new extension translates that logic into a sober, contemporary language, clearly legible as an addition.
The project comprises 22 housing units in a diverse mix: apartments, ground-level homes and assisted-living units. A central courtyard, collective circulation and a thoughtful transition between public and private encourage encounter and social cohesion.
